Carmel Point

Overview
Carmel Point, also recognized as “the Point,” is a small community situated at the southern tip of Carmel-by-the-Sea, providing panoramic views of Point Lobos, Carmel Bay, and the Pacific Ocean. Home to the historic Carmel Mission, this esteemed locale boasts a collection of remarkable homes, some designed by renowned architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Julia Morgan.

The Challenges
This elegant mid-century home, initially constructed in the early 1950s, required substantial updates due to years of adverse weather conditions and insufficient maintenance, resulting in significant deterioration. The project posed several substantial challenges, including elevating the garage for a more convenient entrance to the property, reconfiguring and expanding the entire house to improve the overall use and flow, and constructing a separate Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) on the site.

The Solutions
The proficient team at McNamee Construction embarked on the project with a precise demolition of nearly half of the existing structures on site, and meticulous stripped and gutting the remaining structures. The team then expertly expanded and reconstructed a refined and contemporary single-story residence. The result is an elegant transformation encompassing 2,439 square feet of living space, featuring 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms on a spacious 6,000-square foot lot. The skilled craftsmen at McNamee Construction demonstrated professionalism and cost-effectiveness in addressing challenges throughout the project.

The Results
The exceptional quality and exquisite craftsmanship showcased in this comprehensive remodel signify a remarkable transformation both internally and externally. Abundant rich woods, stunning stonework, and bespoke metalwork contribute to its overall appeal. Visitors often express a profound “wow” factor when experiencing the home.

Strategic creativity in addressing the sloping site and positioning the Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) near the front of the property has resulted in the creation of two splendid and private outdoor living spaces. The first, adjacent to the ADU, features beautiful planters and a serene Zen waterfall. The second, a more expansive area, boasts an elegant custom stone firepit and a professionally designed barbecue center. These outdoor spaces, complemented by meticulous landscaping, serve as a testament to the enduring commitment of the team to excellence.
