Carmel Highlands #2

This remarkable custom home is situated in the Carmel Highlands, approximately 5 miles south of Carmel-By-The-Sea. Nestled just south of the Point Lobos State Reserve along the renowned Highway 1, this community boasts Monterey pine-covered hillsides that afford breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.

The Challenge
The chosen location for this exceptional and distinctive home rests atop a steep 5-acre parcel near the summit of Carmel Highlands. Initially deemed undevelopable, the site presented numerous significant challenges, including the integration of Vastu Architecture principles. The construction process involved cutting into the hillside to establish the building pad and driveway, followed by extensive excavation to accommodate the construction of massive, intricate terraced retaining walls. Further complicating matters, the architects incorporated a striking 5-foot-wide, 35-foot-long water feature between these walls, culminating in a stunning waterfall at the entrance to the house.

The Solution
In Vastu Architecture, correct orientation and proportions are crucial. McNamee Construction’s skilled craftsmen meticulously integrated Vastu principles throughout this captivating multi-level home. Dimensions and proportions, along with the placement of specific rooms, were carefully considered to ensure harmony with nature, with the longer centerline precisely aligned with true north. Features include spacious rooms with vaulted beam ceilings, stone fireplaces, tile floors with radiant heat, a chef’s kitchen, private patios, a custom indoor water feature, and floor-to-ceiling glass walls offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and magical sunsets.

The Results
Through innovative design and meticulous craftsmanship, the challenges posed by the steep terrain of the Carmel Highlands were successfully overcome. This masterpiece by McNamee Construction stands as a testament to architectural ingenuity and perseverance. The careful integration of Vastu Architecture principles ensured that the home’s orientation and proportions harmonized with its natural surroundings. Meticulously crafted with careful attention to detail, the home exudes elegance and sophistication.
